Hi, I just bought this at a thrift store for $2.99. It is marked W. Germany 217-42.  The clear glazing does have very small like cracking throughout it -- not sure if this is bad, or because of age, or made that way...

Is this size unusal, or not?   ???

Anyways it is about 17 inches tall, and about 6 inches wide.  Can anyone tell me anything more about it?  Or like the age of it...

I think these tall ones were for whatever you wanted them for but they were designed to stand on the florr

You got it, it is a 42 cm floor vase by Scheurich not one of their nicest pieces but definatly a Scheurich I would say late 60s. The crazing would have been caused by variations in temperature over the years. I would say that it has spent a considerable amount of time in a shed or unheated basement.

...and I suppose with lots of crazing, the value of course drops.  Or are these common events over the years.

I mean - you we all get wrinkles over our faces over time too.   :old: Nothing stops that.  So is crazing just part of the age, and how it was made?  Are some more prone to crazing or not.

Don't worry about the crazing Rose, it's a normal feature of that type of glaze which shrinks slightly with age and shouldn't affect the value at all.
I try to pass my own age-related crazing off as laugh-lines, but my wife insists that nothing could be THAT funny  :o
