'Gun' pipe case
« on: October 10, 2007, 09:49:23 PM »
This wooden gun-shaped case contains a small clay pipe!  The case is decorated with tiny nails and red and green paint.  It has the date 1908 on one side and the initials TEF on the other.  It seems as if the case was made to fit the pipe, although it looks very crude and 'home made', while the bowl of the little clay pipe actually has a logo which reads 'T.D' impressed in it, indicating that it was mass-produced  ???

Yup, Kev's right. Many clay pipes were broken over time, so complete ones aren't that common.  We always used to find loads of clay pipe bits on canal digs, but rarely undamaged ones.
Cheers!

Sadly, the little pipe isn't undamaged!  :'(  While the bowl is complete and apparently unused, there is no stem!  It is broken off and missing from the case   :boohoo:
