Title: Circular mark difficult to read = Thos Forester, Phoenix Works, Longton
Post by: jsg207 on March 21, 2008, 08:06:02 AM
Another baffling mark... I have a green/blue/turquoise matt glazed wall vase. On the back of the vase is a stamp that didn't quite make it and I've had a hard time trying to work out its origin. If any kind soul can give me a clue I'd be most grateful.

Not sure...

...Could it be Wade Heath Flaxman ware or perhaps Dartmouth Pottery?

Checked my Wade book and can't find a circular mark for Wade Heath - mostly seem to be straight line ones.

Could you please tell us what some of the lettering is?

Yes, it is very very similar....but as you know TC so many of the glazes the potteries were using then look the same.... there is no mark shown on this one, so we can't know for sure....

Looks like this could be the same for the moment...

Can you make out any of the letters at all?  I tried copying your bottom pic and blowing it up in PSP but it is too grainy...

It looks like there is a plus sign + on the left middle of the ring?

Yeah, to me the glazes look very similar, but is it possible to get another pic of the mark but closer......if possible.

Can you get a closer pic of the mark?  Thanks

Very deco item, and VERY nice.... :clap2:

Folks, I am overwhelmed by your kind responses, your amazing quick answers and above all, your expertise. Thank you. Sorry... I meant to say THANK YOU.

I've tried taking more close up pix and I think they are more illegible than the ones here. This mark sadly is just as blurry on the wall vase. Perhaps this description might help.

The letter on the centre left of the circle is certainly a "+" (plus sign) and I think also in the same place in centre right of the circle

The first two letters on the bottom of the circle is definitely a "P" followed by either a "H" or could be "M". I'd say the word is about 5 or 6  letters long.

The word in the top circle starts definitely with a  "T" and is about 6 or 7 letters long.

The glaze has a satin or semi-matt finish. It's not glossy or shiny if thats any help...

OMG, that's it! You are amazing. AND so fast. Thank you so much. SO much.

I've loved these little wall vases for a long, long while and I'll be sad to let them go, although I can see from the responses that there are others who will be get as much enjoyment out of them as I have done.

Thank you
