Title: Austrian stamp on Bayeaux vase
Post by: jsg207 on March 21, 2008, 08:16:49 AM
Here's an oddity and I'm hoping Austrian pottery experts out there may help me find the maker of this strange mixture of  influences. I have a shiny blue and grey glazed earthenware vase I bought in the Midlands some time ago , with Egyptian motif handles and a raised relief around the vase of the Bayeaux tapestry(?) or perhaps Anglo Saxon soldiers.

I originally posted an enquiry on the British pottery section of this amazing website, as I thought because the mark with a lion rampant with a crown would be English, but replies from the posting suggest it was of Austrian origin with an importers mark perhaps. Can anyone recognize the vase or an explanation of the odd mixture of different themes?

Must say that is a very beautiful vase.  I am sure the people here will be able to help, as I always reach out to them for my stuff.

Very Beautiful...I like it.. :heart3:

Thats a pretty amazing site for marks and I did find a rampant lion with a crown on it's head in the German section that is identical to the lion within the circle of stars mark on my vase, but its recorded as  Frankenthal Paul Hammong 1755-59 - and that is too early date wise. I'd say my vase is around the 1920's 30's .

I am still search and going nuts at the same time.
