I wonder if this is part of a large nativity set? It falls over too easily for a door stop.

It's odd that it's made out of lead though. Home made?

Wouldn't have said so. Lead was easy to cast, wasn't considered hazardous and was probably relatively cheap when this was made

Its a boot scraper.

It wasn't a very good one as it would fall over when touched unless you have to pick this one up? It's only four and a half inches wide and four inches tall. Maybe the holes are for hanging it on a wall? Bit like the flying duck only with a donkey!

Sorry Tony, my bad attempt at humour 8:) but i do feel it was made to screw on to something :-\ sometimes they used to have sign's for the illiterate above places of trade ( if you know what i mean ? ) i wonder if this could be one ?
Ohhh, maybe donkey ride's at the sea side??
