Hi all
Pictured is an unusual pottery vase that looks like bronze ! It is marked ASL on the base but I cannot id this mark. If anybody has heard of ASL ceramics, would be delighted. Vase is Art Nouveau in style, and 12 inches tall.
Best wishes

I don't recognise the monogram but above it is the word "Ceramics". The name of the company might be to the left of that word, can you make any of the letters out?
-
I see now, it says "ASL CERAMICS"

Well, if all else fails, you could give them a call, if this is the same company.

Don't think so, they come furnace repair and manufacture

HI AGAIN
Thanks for your help so far - I had already googled away - a lot ! - on this vase, and had ruled out the furnace making co. which is the only straightforward listing for ASL ceramics - the only 2 other possible leads I got were :
A. Nippon - could this be a Japanese ,either early or later 20thc vase ?
B. I found that ASL stands for [ among other things ] Art Student League of America. They started up about 1880 in USA and go on to this day. Lots of famous American potters and painters trained with/by them, but I couldn't find a reference anywhere to an actual production of ceramics under that logo.
In the meantime I have taken a few hopefully better pics.
The design shows up better I think - its very swirly non repeating. Also the logo.
The ' bronze' effect is very convincing I think. Until you pick it up you would really think it was metal. Actually the body of the vase is a whitish grainy colour.
Best regards
Gemma

You can't rule out the possibility that it's ALS of course

I know it's hard to see but I think it says ASL Ceramics above the monogram.

Wow love it --  with envy here. Very nice.
Is it ASL or ALS? Or for that matter it could be LAS, or LSA....I just say that because we all know how some things get signed....See signature of these (pix) here: http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=9864.0 and just HOW this was signed.
I guess, just what we think it is, may not be always what we assume... (maybe)
Does this help, or anyone have this book?

Hi there
It's ASL. The monogram has these letters entwined, so you couldn't be sure, but around the edge of the base it says A S L ceramics and then there's another letter or maybe two, but they are indistinct.
