Title: Anyone know anything about Majolica?

The clam shell is Portuguese perhaps? I saw one on ebay once and it sold for ?77.

The jug is possibly Japanese or from South Korea, it's marked "MOJIN" on the base

Sorry can't help TC, but I really like the clam shell.

The jug is interesting.  The handle seems to reflect the rope like arches.  I wonder if it has some sort of symbolic meaning or significance, may be something to do with the area in which it was made?  And I wonder what kind of leaf that is?

I like them both :)

Love the jug, the pink inner glaze is really typical of traditional majolica such as Minton. I don't think it's Oriental, though I may be way off base here, but there is a 'Mojin' in Slovakia and the jug looks more European. Shame it isn't Minton though, you'd have your hands on a valuable little piece!
Are there no marks at all on the shell (pretty in its own right and looks to be very well modelled, but not my cup of tea)? Often Portuguese ceramics have an impressed 'P' followed by a mold number, but these can be very small and quite faint, especially on thickly glazed pieces.

I can't help with either of these pieces but those bits on the ropes do look like boomerangs... no idea what the leaf is but dandelion is a possibility.

Yep, shame it's not Minton, I don't think the quality is there for Minton though.

No marks on the clam shell, here's the mark on the jug...

On the subject of Portuguese majolica, does anybody else like my little pot. It's an unmarked piece but I'm sure it's from Portugal as I've seen identical pots which were attributed to Portugal, though the factory remains a mystery to me. It stands 6" high and cost me the princely sum of 20p.

It's the only piece I've got in that colour, and it really stands out wherever I display it.
