Title: Help...Not seen since the Dick Van Dyke Show
Post by: absurdisdaword on August 27, 2008, 06:11:25 PM

"My 8" tall black porcelain vase was broken before I could find out about it.  The only other one like it that I've seen was on the old DICK VAN DYKE SHOW--that vase was white, but same biomorphic shape.  Matte finish outside, smooth shine inside.  I can't make out the name on the bottom.  Does anyone know anything about this vase?  Any info greatly appreciated."

Hi absurdisdaword, and Welcome.

My-that is usual one, isn't it -- but very beautiful too.  Has a nice curvy flow.  I will try to help (as others will too) to figure out the name.  Just curious , have you ever checked YouTube for *clips* of the Dick Van Dyke shown to see if you can find that clip where you saw the same one?  Would be interesting to check...

Lookssss likeeee....Saoyler, or something. Maybe the others here can read it better than me, but I will still try...

Maybe its *SAEYLHER*??, as *maybe* some of the other letter-form/make other letters...will keep working on this.  Maybe you have the only one. Maybe it was made only for the Dick Van Dyke show by one of their artist/production people for the set only, and that is his/her name...

That would be Special.  ??? But until then, Will keep trying to figure it out though...

Welcome to the board.  Sadler? Possibly part of a studio type range?

I tried those variations of the name, thanks--no luck so far.  And I've taken the vase to two local mid century modern dealers, but they were both stumped.   I'll try a third...  :)
