There was a site with a lot of German beer stein marks but it seems to have vanished.
Is that a 'C' or a 'G' under the 'A'?
'WW' might stand for Westerwald, just a guess though.
-
Hello Anne. Tigerchips is right, I have some small ale jugs by Westerwald and the mark is identical.
-
Yay! Thanks folks that's brilliant! The Collectors Weekly site is well-handy, and there is still a stein site which I found then lost again TC! <goes rummaging> Ahhh haaaaaa, got it! http://www.beerstein.net/ (how could I forget that URL?!!!)
( Rose and TC how did I miss your replies above??? Must be losing my marbles!!! )
There does seem to be a splodge of some sort under the bar of the A but it's nowhere near clear enough to see what it's meant to be. :-\
ChimpMad (love the name - are you really mad on chimps? ;D) thanks for the confirmation of the mark. Westerwald makes sense for the WW - wasn't it a place? Were there multiple ceramics makers there or just one?
-
Hello Anne., I believe that the area is Westerwalder and Westerwald was the main factory. If I remember correctly there are a lot of smaller potteries in the area, all using different variations of the WW mark, somewhat like the Staffs factories used to.
I am fascinated by the great apes and have a real soft spot for the chimpanzees especially. I'm very keen on anthropology and the chimps are probably the nearest thing to proto-humans alive today. I've even 'adopted' one of the oldest chimps at Monkey World in Dorset, and have a collection of over 100 apes in ceramic, wood, brass and all sorts of materials, most of which are chimps.
-
So it's a real passion then! We'd love to see your chimp collection as well if you have pics please. We have a show and tell forum for sharing passions and new finds etc in, and the gallery can house pics of collections as well (you can have personal albums & share in the public ones.)
-
That would be nice to see another person collection... :cheerleader:

Well, I'm still finding my way around this site and enjoying looking back at the old posts, some interesting subjects!
We are currently looking to downsize and move house so will probably be selling a lot off, probably through ebay, so will be doing a lot of photographing over the next few weeks. I'll post up anything that may be of interest, including a lot of pottery/studio pottery marks to the relevant galleries (once I've learnt how to do it!),and the apes will make an appearance at some stage.
-
Wonderful, thank you and if you get stuck using the gallery or any bit of the board just shout for help. (There is a simple tutorial on how to use the Gallery as well which I wrote for the Glass board, but it's handy to use here too: http://www.yobunny.co.uk/support/cpg/help.html)
-
Glad to say I've made a start by uploading a couple of shots to the Studio Pottery marks gallery.
-
Cheers.

You're welcome. There's plenty more to come as and when I get the pics together.
-
Yay! Well done and thank you.
