Title: Cake plate & stand czechoslovakia
Post by: caterer on February 10, 2009, 05:00:41 PM
Hi
I have another mind boggler for you,
Cake plate and stand, the stand is epns, that bit is easy ;D but where the cake stand screws onto the plate it has covered up some of the makers mark, what i can read is made in czecho slovokic (this is how it is spelt on the plate) with J.W.T in a wiggly oval shape
the  picture is of horned cattle in a field
any comments will be appreciated, afraid the mark is not too clear bit difficult to photograph
 :)

It's not at all easy to make out the shape of the mark really. Can you try again using the macro mode of your camera please? (This is usually shown by a little flower indicator on the settings.) That will allow you to focus in better on the mark and we'll be able to see what it looks like. Thanks. :)

It would be interesting to see what it says under the metal piece.  Maybe *Handmade* or what....

Better picture, thanks - we all will keep looking..

Hi
I have tried to remove the stand but it is fixed tight, I know the bit that can be viewed says made in etc..... I wonder if it says hand painted as you can see it is a long word/s there as I can just see a ink mark where the word ends, and the begining letter looks to be a H.

My guess is Hand-Painted too. Be careful trying to forcibly undo the stand - it could crack the plate which would be a shame.  :boohoo:

I had a stuck one too which I had to soak for a while and then gently ease undone but it was done in great trepidation!

I think I will leave it alone, just my luck it is worth something and i go and crack it.
well I will go hunting for some more goodies to baffle every one with.
