Over on the Glass Message Board an item was posted which has baffled everyone for almost 3 years. Now it's been solved I'm adding a link from here as it's one of those odd things which we may come across someday and be equally puzzled over!
The item was a silver salt with a glass liner. The mystery was about the markings on the silver part, which appeared to read SIOMMET, but today we find it actually is a number 5 followed by IOMMET - the I and O being joined to make the Russian Cyrillic character ю
