Title: Old Pottery Pitchers
Post by: fstws6 on March 02, 2010, 02:31:16 PM
I bought these 2 old Pitchers over 10 years ago and had them shipped to me from Germany . Any one seen this type before. They are black on the bottom. You think they were used on a oven of some sort.

The second one has a slipware type decoration.

Might be worth checking this online museum out...

I know mine came from germany. Mine is a little later in the years. Maybe 1800's .
I am not 100% sure still and would love to know more .What part of germany ? who the maker was ? and pinpoint age down a little more.
I have more plates and bowls similar to this one.

Is the bottom painted black, as the last pic (in first post) to me looked like it was painted black, or am I wrong as usual??

These links help at all??

I dont think it is  paint. It looks like black soot build up. Check these ones out.
