Found this one today - any ideas?
You have to see the second link for the base as I can't seem to upload the pic I have.

Looks like the Meissen mark to me,they still make stuff so it might not be to old but I'm no expert with pottery so I could be wrong,
Keith.

That's the Meissen crossed sword mark. :thd: (faints)
(sorry Keith, I posted at the same time)
-
Thanks! I did recognise the Meissen mark but thought it to be phoney - It was on a dealers stand at ?3 - any good links to dating/identifying it more fully?
-
Just google Meissen marks, the site I saw puts yours I think in the 1970's but didn't look in depth,
Keith.
-
http://www.antique-marks.com/meissen-marks.html - this might help. :)

There are a few imitation marks made by Volkstedt-Rudostadt (18thC) and Lowestoft (18thC) which look similar but I wouldn't know how to tell them apart i'm afraid.
If you think it might be another company there are some online books in the link below which may show crossed sword marks by different companies....

Well this is the same model number:

Nice find!

Hmmm interesting, the base on the eBay one has a hole which indicates it's hollow (hole is to let the steam/heat out so it doesn't explode in the kiln)... Crispin's seems to have no hole, which would imply it's a solid object. Is that so Crispin?
-
Yes Anne that is the case - Has me wondering too! I'm still of the opinion mine is fake but it's extremely well moulded and painted none the less.
-
The other possibility, of course, is that the one with the hole is a fake and yours is real!
I was going to suggest you ask on this Meissen forum for their opinion but them saw you just have ;D http://www.buymeissen.com/Forums/tabid/179/Default.aspx (http://www.buymeissen.com/Forums/tabid/179/Default.aspx)
Let us know what they respond please. :x-fingers: for a good result.

There's no flies on me ;D

Just a guess by me -- but is it the mark from that link of the age of 1947 - 1973 ????
That is just a guess by me ;)
-
