Title: Porcelain Staffordshire dogs
Post by: Tigerchips on May 07, 2010, 07:57:09 PM
I just spotted these....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270573106919#ht_4570wt_907

I thought they looked more like they were made from porcelain rather than pottery.

If it's porcelain that would be unusual, well it would be to me anyway. Do you think they might be a rare piece of Derby or Bow or something along those lines? They seem to have a slit across the neck so i'm wondering if they've had some kind of metal chain around the neck? If so, that's not something i've seen before either. But i'm no expert on staffordshire dogs.

I'm not going to buy them myself though, even if they are worth thousands. I'm just wondering.

I think the slits are painted-on collars TC?

These look much plainer than other china dogs I've seen... some examples here:

Ah, i see, maybe they forgot to paint the neck or the paint has come off.

Perhaps British & Irish Pottery, as it's a query about how to recognise real Staffordshire dogs? ;)

I added some links about you other stuff the other  Staffordshire  stuff you had posted.  See the links there.  Antique Roadshow did something on it -- so I posted a link to that about these Dogs over in your other post...
