I love the colours on this oriental looking vase, and think I can just make out "MADE IN JAPAN" on the base (last picture) ???

Does anyone know how the decoration was done please and does it have a special name?  It looks like enamel paint which has been fired???? But not sure that that can be done.  The colours are really bright and jewel like, and that's what attracted me to it.  I'm guessing its not that old.
TIA :)

Hi Anne,

you're right, this has been decorated with overglaze enamels which have been fired on - it's a common technique on oriental wares. I'm not sure about a name for this decoration - were the vase Chinese it would probably be described as 'Famille Noire'; I don't know if there's any more specific Japanese name.
