Title: Unknown Pottery, and writing ???
Post by: antiquerose123 on January 03, 2011, 04:22:13 AM
 :)  Hi There:
Found these 2 little items.  Not sure what they are for, as they have different type of lids.  I am thinking (maybe) they are just an souvenier item from some Country.

Anyone have an idea of the writing on it ??  Russian, Hungarian, or what?  Can anyone read what it says at all? I have no idea.  About 4 inches tall.  The butterfly is painted in thick paint.

Thanks all... ;)

Yes Greek, an urn commemorating St Theodora - see here for the full story:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasta - the words on your urn translate pretty much to:
" VASTA
St. Theodora
My hair trees
My blood river
My body church"
which matches pretty much what's said on the Wikipedia page.  :cheerleader:

It's souvenir ware - I had a honey jar in the same style some years ago. VASTA is the place associated with St Theodora.  :bny:
