Hi, Can anybody please help with regards the mark and possibly are they worth anything please?
I have a pair of these Toby Jugs that are supposed to be old. Any help would be gratefully appreciated as I collect them and like to know about them.
Thank you :)

I am pretty sure it is German, and certainly in the Dresden style although not actually made in Dresden. It could be Potschappel or Rudolstadt (both established mid-late 19th Century). Potschapel I believe is still running. My guess would be on Rudolstadt or perhaps even Sandizell whom I know made figurines etc. It is not an exact science as there were very many german factories using the 'N' mark.
Hope this helps

Hi and welcome to the board. I've not seen a standing Toby jug before, they usually seem to be seated, so I wonder if that might run him to earth? I was trying to figure out the mark - it looks like N and a device, but I'm undecided if it's a crown over N or N over something like a bell or a fetterlock? Your Toby has a sweet face (many are plain ugly!) and no ale mug or pipe etc... I wish I could help with him but I'm stumped. :(

Thank you so much for the information and kind words. Hopefully more will filter through!
I have never heard of a fetterlock but agree that close up it doesnt look too like a crown.
It does appear though as lilypot points out, in the 'dresden' style.

It's a device found in heraldry (I'm into family history as well! :)) - see here http://www.heraldsnet.org/saitou/parker/Jpglossf.htm scroll down the F's and there are several examples of fetterlocks in heraldic images. :)

I could be completely on the wrong tracks but I have looked again at my research notes, originally for Capodimonte figures. Hopefully these links may be of some use:

I am sure between us we can narrow down the search for you

Many thanks Lilypot. I think you are exactly right when you say capodimonte. I have just had a brief look (as my bed is calling!) and will continue tomorrow.
Thanks again.
