Title: Old Cheese Dish in New Zealand

Hi...   I was directed here by a helpful member of another antiques forum.   I am glad to have found you.

I have a pottery item that we have always called 'The Cheese Dish'.

It came to New Zealand with my British ancestors some time in the 1800's.   My uncle told me that it could have been made prior to the 1800's, although there is no certainty about this.

Apart from the quite colorful and elaborate decoration, I can only see two marks on this unit.   Under the lid there is a stamped "B", and under the base there is an "X" that appears to have been marked by hand.  There are holes in the lid.

I'd be interested to read any ideas regarding the origin, age and value of this dish.   Thanks in advance.

The only impressed mark 'B' I can find are J&E Baddeley,Shelton,c. 1784-1806,
                                                       Thomas Barlow,Longton,c. 1849-82 and
                                                       T.W. Barlow & sons ltd,Longton,c.1882-1940.
 You might find something there,or I could be totally wrong :thd: ;D ;D

Thanks.   I guess the 'B' is most likely to signify a maker rather than something else like production information.
