Title: Please help me to identify
Post by: Cbarb01 on January 06, 2012, 09:41:44 PM
I came across this beautiful tea set after my Mom passed away.  All I really know about it is that she lived in Japan as a little girl (My Grandfather was in the war) and it was given to her by her Japanese nanny.  I have a tea pot, creamer, sugar bowl 5 tea cups and saucers.  They appear to be hand painted as I can feel the painted surface.  There is no marking on them other then the japanese writing on the bottom.  I have looked on Ebay for similar ones but have not come across this particular color or exact style.  The tea cups are smaller then average and do not flare out at all so they almost look like Sake cups, however they have a handle.  Is this something of possible value?  If I could get some info on this, that would be great.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to the board. I'm sure someone might be able to help with your teaset, we have a couple of members who are interested in Japanese ceramics.

I've removed your duplicate post from Show and tell so we don't get confused. You only need to post it once and we can move it around as needed afterwards. :)

The mark is 'Kutani' it means nine valleys, the usual colours are iron red and gold although not always,it looks early 20th century but that's just my opinion, price is like many things what someone wants and what they are prepared to pay.I would think they are for tea as the sake cups I've seen don't have handles, hope this helps, ;D ;D
