Title: Blue and white oval pot, dish
Post by: deco.queen on February 25, 2012, 09:09:52 PM
I finally have some time to ask some questions here.  I have no idea what this type kind of piece would be used for! I don't think it's old but I just thought it was neat.  The top edge rolls over.  There is a blurry mark on the bottom.  It's 11" from handle to handle and 4.75" tall.  I'd just like to know what it would be used for!  Thanks for looking and I hope everyone's having a super day!

Hi Janice:

I am not sure -- but thinking maybe something like a stewing pot ??  I wonder IF it might have had a lid?  Can you tell around the edges?

The edge is real smooth, don't know if a lid would fit it.

lol...a thunder pot, did I mention it's oval and not round? I don't know.  I can't make out the words even under magnification.

Hi Janice! Good to see you again. :) I can't make out the wording on your pics... can you make it out?  It might be worth a browse through this site as they have 1000s of blue and while pieces displayed: http://www.blueandwhite.com/

Perhaps a jardiniere (sp?). You know, a container to put plant pots in.

TC well done! I was thinking it might say Victoria but couldn't be sure, and my Blue and White book doesn't mention them. I didn't realise they were making modern repros in China like this.

It might be a foot bath.
