Title: Dress clip?
Post by: Anne on July 31, 2012, 10:25:34 PM
I think this is a dress clip, in which case it would have had a matching piece. If not, what else might it be?

Not something you'd ever need, I guess, Keith! :)  They were pieces of jewellery, often made as a matching pair, which could be attached by means of the clip at the back onto a plain dress or jacket to dolly it up.

Having talked to some of the folks on the Vintage Jewellery group on Facebook, it's been suggested by Janice that this might be a hat ornament rather than a dress clip. Now I didn't know about hat ornaments either! :)

I know about hats! I had to make a posh one for the garden party recently, and am making crocheted ones as well. :) They don't have clip on ornaments though.

Would you believe I've crocheted a number of hats for my Mother-in law, they look like teacosies but she says they keep her head warm in the winter and doesn't care what they look like,I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not ;D ;D

Heh heh heh  I crochet tea cosies as well Keith. But my hats aren't quite tea cosy like! I'll have to get some pics done of them. I'm also making scarves, and a new top cover for our bed for the winter - a nice thick one.
