I have completely forgotten what this finish is called. It looks as though the china has been sprayed with sugar crystals/strands. Much finer than mossware. I would be so grateful as it's driving me nuts that I can't remember! The piece is Victorian, but there is no maker's mark - just the number 82 painted onto the bottom of one of the feet.
Thank you

Hiya Cat! I've been racking my brains over this for a couple of days, as it was popular when I was a wee girl, and I've been trying to recall what my mum called it. Today, sugared pottery popped into my head, but I don't know if that was its proper name, or whether it was a local word for it... I googled for sugared pottery but nothing much came up, but it might just stimulate a memory in someone else!

Hi Anne,
Shocking isn't it - the older I get the more I know and the less I can remember! I tried googling sugar china before posting but was just inundated with sugar bowls lol. Thank you for giving it some thought. I have every faith that we'll get there eventually - we usually do.
Kind regards
Cat

We shall, Cat. It's buried deep in the bowels of my memory - and will take a while to reach the surface again! :)

Were you thinking of Mossware or 'Moss Ware' perhaps?
I'm sure i've seen something similar from Italy somewhere.

That might have been what I was remembering TC, thank you. :kissy: An earlier topic about Mossware here: http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=2245.0
