Title: Trying to ID the maker of this dish
Post by: Jonshearer23 on October 04, 2012, 09:32:07 AM
Got this dish the other day, really nice looking. Kinda of has a pearl like shine too it. Anyone one have any clue to who the manufacturer might be? Only identifying marks are the "2210" and "USA" marks.

Could we see the back of the dish. Often colour of clay, font used for marking, etc. can help identify the maker.

Hello and welcome to the board. That's a very pretty piece you have there. Could we see a view of the base showing the marks as well please?

Hmmm I'm not sure this helps much, as there's little in the way of clues. :) Let's see what others may know.

Yeah I've tried dozens of different images searchs using different combinations and couldnt find anything. I thought that I was on to something with one page that explained about different clay colors used by different manufactures but was to vague. And the number on it dont really narrow it down any. You would think that If they were going to bother putting a number on it it would be cataloged somewhere. Since its more just hand drawn on do you think it was just and individuals piece or did some pottery manufactures also do that?

I had a thought this might be a leaf nappy, so searched a bit and found various results with this shape, so that's another area worth exploring. I feel it's a regular production piece not a homer.  Many makers used incised numbers. It might be worth going to replacements.com and putting the number or leaf nappy into their search box and see what comes up too.
