Title: Unknown porcelain Monk figure, Chinese / Japanese mark?? - ID = Hassan Heshmat
Post by: davidfish1212 on April 09, 2013, 01:46:51 PM
Hi All,

I bought this figure today, its modern look appealed to me, I thought it had a Scandinavian flavour to it. It has a clear mark within the glaze and hand marked on the base. I have googled various combinations but to no avail, can anyone help me please. I don't even know if it is a Chinese/Japanese mark!!

Cheers in anticipation, David

Reminds me of a Russian figurine I had once. It's shown here... http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=9577.0

Thanks Tigerchips, I see what you mean, after your tip I have trawled google images, blue robe, monk figure , can't find him anywhere, or even a mark that I can match to his. I guess this might be one that might go into my ' don't know but keeping because I like it ' pile. Hopefully one day ill stumble across another with a label or helpful owner.

Thanks for your help everyone that's looked so far ;D

Hi, update on the Monk! He's by an Egyptian sculptor called Hassan Heshmat. I have a positive ID by another collector who has a smaller figure, also marked with his signature/ mark but crucially, with a paper label detailing the gallery it was bought in, and the Heshmat name.😃
