I bought these on ebay (in weak moments I buy utter crap on ebay sometimes) and wondering what they are. They look small to me for a soup tureen but I don't know what else they might be. Just a covered dish? I'll take more pics but there is a rim near the top to hold a lid. Interesting designs: combination of asian and european designs.
-
I'd go with soup tureens, minus lids, have one similar to your blue one, makes a good plant pot ;D ;D
-
They certainly appear to be far too large to be sugar bowls! ;D
Carolyn

thank you both
I should have posted more pics and dimensions. Blue and white is 11 cm tall and the other is 13 cm tall. Forgot to measure width and will be similarly on the small side.
-
Sauce tureens?
-
Out of interest, what's the mark on the bottom of the blue one ? ;D I think Carolyn must have a sweet tooth ! :o ;D ;D
-
this is the best pic I can get which unfortunately is not that clear, I'll try again today
Out of interest the beige one holds just under 900 ml and the blue and white about 650 ml.

from what I can make out, the top row of writing is:

bottom row:

thepotteries.org website shows a date for the initials somewhere between c.1842-1928.

Well done TC, saved me looking it up ! where have you been ? ;D ;D
-
That's amazing! well done TC on finding so much on so little, my pic and interpretation was so woefully inadequate. Thank you.
The transfer of the design has not been done very well. I attach another pic. Very interesting though.
thanks all

It was easy to find, I just looked it up on this website... http://thepotteries.org/mark/initials.html
I should pop in here more i know Keith, and get to the car boots a bit more too.
-
Indeed you should pop in more, TC, you've been much missed. Hope you are keeping OK? x
-
A bit sore in my joints, i'm taking Vitamin D supplements, hope it helps, otherwise okay.
-
Not to knock the vitamin D supplements (lord knows, us northies can use them) but have you tried glucosamine? It seems to have worked for me quite well.
-
Sorry to hear about the pains. Glucosamine (as Carolyn said) but with added chondroitin is good for joint pain, TC.
-
Condroitin, that was the word. Been trying to think of that for ages. Glucosomine seems to be doing it for me (at a third of the recommended dose) but want Alastair to do something so he`ll quit complaining.

I have now potted them up with hyacinth bulbs which is what I had in mind for them when I bought them.
-
My wife would approve ;D ;D ;D
-
I love hyacinths but I
-
I love hyacinths but I can't tolerate their perfume indoors as it gives me a terrible headache. In the garden they have to stay for me.
