Title: tobacco jar 2
Post by: ju1i3 on September 04, 2016, 05:55:42 AM
This is a tobacco jar I see regularly. The prices were so low I bought two. I'm going to plant some hyacinth bulbs (in bulb fibre) in them. They certainly share something of the classical style of some terracotta hyacinth vases (http://www.hyacinthvases.org.uk/ceramic_hyacinth_vases shows a few I've had in my possession). I show another pair I have but pic is quite small so will post another.

I don't know much about the terminology but is this "Etruscan" style that was revived in the 19th century?

I picked up the other jar from the sorting office. I see they are slightly different sizes. The design (transfer?) is crisper and more vibrant on one.

Gosh, I think they are fab! I know zilch about them though, Julie. They would look super with herbs growing in them on the kitchen window sill. :)

I've planted them up with hyacinth bulbs. I'll add another pic when they're in bloom.

Where are you Jul13? On a recent holiday, I've discovered that Maine, US had quite the red pottery industry going.

Then it is not likely to be from Maine!  :24:
