Title: Twin Dwarfs
Post by: Elaine on October 11, 2007, 01:07:16 PM
Another from Great aunt's collection!  These little dwarfs are just 3 and a half inches high.  I think there's some legend about twin dwarfs, but I can't remember the story, or where it comes from.  Would these little fella's be Bavarian?

I tried, Kev, but not reading German doesn't help  ::)  And I didn't half find some strange translations!  :o The one about two dwarfs in a brothel didn't translate too well!   :24:

Seriously, I've tried all sorts of Googling (and it's awfully bad for the eyes, I'm told 8)  :24:)  but no luck.  I just KNOW I've heard something about these figures, though  :hb:

And is there any relevance in the fact that one has his eyes open and the other has his closed?  Hmmmm  ???

Leni, this page might help: http://www.timelessmyths.com/norse/beings.html#Dwarves I wonder if your dwarfs are the first two, Modsognir and Durin?  If yours are part of Norse mythology then Aine may know as she was able to tell me about Holgar Danske on the GMB.

(BTW Google "two dwarfs" and you'll find the English version of two dwarfs in a brothel - it's a joke!)

Thanks, Anne.  It looks as if my dwarfs might well be Modsognir and Durin, since Durin apparently means 'sleepy' according to that site, and as I said, one of my two has his eyes shut.

And thanks for the tip about the two dwarfs in the brothel!  :24: :24: :24:  The translation was ........ er .... bizarre!  :czy:
