Title: Wooden Statue
Post by: wassupnowcats on October 22, 2007, 10:05:53 PM
Does anyone recognise this statue and basket.  The wood that the statue is made of is very, light weight, I would also like to know what type wood it is carved from.  thanks for all your help.

The figure looks like it could be teak. These are often seen depicting African figures or animals.

Hey thanks,  I thought it may be Teak but it's so light weight, I wonder where it's from?

Unlikely to be teak if it's lightweight. It certainly looks like its from somewhere on the African continent, but its not your usual run of the mill stuff. Did the basket come from the same place?

The statuette looks like these ones from Senegal, and looks modern, made for the tourist market to my eyes.

To: Lustrousstone's reply - - It is really light weight, like foam but it is definately some kind of wood. It is the color of teak. Any other ideas? No the basket is not from the same place.  I'm just very curious about both.  thank you for the response...........

I think the basket is also African, though possibly not from the same part of Senegal.
