Title: Wings of Love
Post by: Anne on November 22, 2007, 08:09:45 PM
BTW, I came by a very large strange looking print the other day. It had a naked man on the left, a naked women on the right but they were not together. Over them was this huge bird and it's wings covered the top most of the print and I think the sides too. The print looked old but they wanted ?8 for it.

Was that Wings of Love? http://www.postershop.com/Pearson-Steven/Pearson-Steven-Wings-of-Love-2505134.html - I had a huge copy of this on the wall in my flat in the mid-70's - it was a really popular pic at that time.... I seem to recall reading it was the biggest selling print for years.

You see what I mean, Pip...? It was *everywhere* in the 70s!  :24: I saw it in the art shop in Kendal and decided I was going to buy it. Mine was about 4 feet x 3 feet probably - absolutely huge! - and I seem to recall it cost me around ?16, which was over a week's wages at the time... I started work in 1974 on ?12 per week, so I had to save up for weeks as my rent and food took up over a tenner of that. I remember going and putting a deposit on it (a fiver I think) and then paying the rest off at either ?1 or ?1.50 a week, and then finally I was able to take it home with me and hang it on the wall. I was soooo proud of that picture, as it was, at the time, the most expensive item I had ever bought!
