I thought I'd show this interesting piece. I bought it here in Falmouth some months ago at a carboot sale. It was said to have been made "by a Professor", but sellers will tell you anything ::) ;D However, its not inconceivable that it could have been made by a student at the local art college sometime in the past or by a local potter. The bowl appears to have been made in a mould and is quite thin. When I first saw it I thought it might even be papier mache until I had handled it some. I don't think it was intended to be a bowl because it rocks slightly and a metal wall fitting has been glued to the back so that it can be hung. It looks to date back to the 60s or before IMHO. The abstract pattern has been made by using a stencil technique (torn paper?) and what looks like powdered glaze blown over giving it a speckled effect(?) but perhaps someone can confirm that :)
It would be nice to discover its origins, but I'm not holding my breath :thd:
