Just got this, it is like a candle holder, as there is a center circle in the inside of it. It says Hand Painted, and Nasco, but that is all I can make out...
any ideas?
thanks

Hi Rose, the other word is probably Japan, that's a pretty piece.
-
Hi Rose, googled for nasco and it's Japanese! And very nice, think it's a bowl not a candleholder...
-
No it not a bowl, as it has this inside of it....so a Candle holder ?? BUT STILL a weird looking candle holder,as the edges have bumps on it......any other ideas if not a candle holder....
And I had googled Nasco too, and thought that meant Japan, but then I found on the net that things had Nasco on it, and from Italy on it....so I am confused....or misread it.... :bbl:
-
Perhaps Nasco is an importer's mark
-
Rose, does the writing looks like this?

Rose, does the writing looks like this?
Yes, it does in my opinion....
-
Rose I founsd a similar shape its a ..................Warmer stand! Look:
-
Hey your right...but mine does not have any holes in it, like yours does. i kinda wonder what a weird Bowl, and if a candle holder -- even weirder...lol
So does Nasco mean Japan when the writing is like yours??? Was that the writing on the bottom of your warmer stand too...that was posted here....
Is that yours....so then you collect this, or just have the one stray piece??
-
I just googled it, was curious to find it, i like to do that... information can be found here:http://www.replacements.com/webquote/NASSPR.htm
-
A *warming tray*.......hmmmm-m-m-m......so I can *WARM my BUNS*, EH?
(See my cafe post about Brrrrr-r-r-r-r-r)
Finally, warm buns....lol
Oh....I *googled*, and I *gaggled*, and I *giggled*......but I never found that....your good...
-
Ah haaa....I went to that page, and click on home, and came up with:
Nasco china
Nasco Italy http://www.replacements.com/china/NSO.htm
But it does not match my pattern....I knew I had read something about Nasco italy somewhere also....so still confused ???
-
Rose, since the shape is almost the same i fairly certain it's japanese and not Italian. The decoration as you compare it with the other nasco japan china dinnerware is more like yours. I' of to the fleamarket. Regards to the bun(s).
-
found this -- sort of similar (a bit) ????
http://www.replacements.com/webquote/NASNAS13.htm
Ok...I am going to bed...it 3;23 a.m. here, and buns are cold...lol
-
If you look on ebay there is loads of Nasco stuff, some made in Japan, others unmarked as to place of manufacture but I did find this one side dishes (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lot-of-2-China-Bone-Side-Dishes-Nasco-National-Silver_W0QQitemZ170174986400QQihZ007QQcategoryZ25QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
which seems to indicate that the National Silver Company imported stuff or had stuff made to be sold alongside the metalware it made
-
Warmer in this sense might be for a teapot or similar? Like the glass ones we discussed over on GMB a while back.
-
I still believe because of the stands and the picture I posted that it is a warmer stand, but they forgot to put the holes in it. Maybe you can pour hot water in yours to keep something warm?
-
Au bain mary the Japanese way....

The warmer I have has a circle in the bottom for a tea light, then you put the teapot (which it came with) on top. :bcke:
Carolyn :tea:
-
I guess with no holes in mine....ahhh.....I do not know what.....cuz IF you put a tea light in it, then what is the ring around it....can't be for water...unless just for the tea light to keep the heat in, and by having a bigger base, more surface covered to keep warm..
But then the other one has holes in the side of it -- so that would let the warm air out....
so confused.. :-\
and THANKS Lustre for letting me know what the letters stood for.....
