Title: SylvaC
Post by: Anne on August 12, 2007, 03:36:34 AM
My favourite fruit bowl! This lives on the dining table all the time and is usually full of apples, now evicted for the photos...  bigger than a dinner plate and it's hand-painted. Backstamp says it's Rosslyn pattern by SylvaC. I'd love to know how old this piece might be.

Ohhh this is interesting, I've just found a vase in the same pattern but with a different maker's name... Falcon Ware rather than SylvaC. Is there a connection between these companies?  http://www.jemsbazaar.com.au/prod979.htm

Edited to add: Answering my own question here: http://www.thepotteries.org/features/lawrence.htm   ;D

This stamp was used 1950-60's. Are there any impressed numbers at all?

Really?  :o Thanks TC, that's good to know. There are no numbers or other marks on the bowl at all other than those shown in the pic of the bottom.

Sylvac (Shaw & Copestake) became popular because of it's green matte animals. The bunnies were, and still are, popular but similar one's were also made by Price Brothers and Wade.

This vase is no 1571.
