Title: Wall tile ? Cherry Blossom
Post by: Tony H on August 18, 2007, 11:10:47 PM
Hi Guys

We have had this piece for quite a few years now and have never been able to found any ID.

It is made from a very white clay and is like a shallow dish with base rim this has two holes for a cord to hang it from.

There are no marks on the base of any kind, it is 7.5" x 9" with a very good glaze.

Tony, I was just doing some housekeeping in the GMB Archives and found an old topic about a glass Yalle vase, and was struck by the similarity between its decoration and your tile. Maybe a line worth pursuing? http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,2144.0.html

Looks more representative of Quince blossom to me Tony, an often seen oriental motif, but rather crudely done I'm afraid to say.
The exaggerated block colouring and comic book style suggests 50's-60's Japanese (or possibly Chinese) to me.
