Hi..I purchased a large doll at a garage sale, and I KNOW NOTHING ??? ABOUT DOLLS. She appears to be bisque on her face, hands, and legs. She is over 3 feet tall, maybe 4 feet tall, as I have NOT measured her. She also comes with a stand. I think that she is a high quality doll, but then what do I know... :hlp:
I have looked around a bit for marks, but then I have never *undressed* her :pbag:. I have not found any marks, but then where could any marks be? Like I said, I only peeked a tiny bit for any mark...
I have photos, but my photos are too big , so IF anyone could help me make my photos smaller to post that would be great...
Would anyone know the maker, the name of the doll, any information, the value of her, the ceramic apsect of it,etc ?
The good thing is that the people were asking for offers on her. Me being, *EL-CHEAPO*, offered the tidy sum of a whole $2 for her (for Kev, that is Canadian dollars :24:). They hummed about it, and I don't think anyone had offered them anything for her being such a large doll, so they accepted my $2.
I hope that she is worth more than 2 bucks....

I seem to recall that some dolls were marked on the back of the head just below the hairline, so that'd be worth checking.

Anne is right. Back of the neck is usual if the head is separate, or sometimes between 'shoulder blades' if the doll has a cloth body with bisque head and shoulders. Sometimes on the back of the head under the wig, which you may have to lift.
However, you should be aware, Rose, that these apparently 'antique' dolls are being reproduced even as we speak! So yours may not be worth much - but even if she turns out not to be antique, I reckon she's worth more than $2 ;D

Yeah...I did not purchase cuz I thought it was an antique, as I knew that it was only *dressed* victorian...but due to the size, height, and my cheap offer  and they accepted...I could not refuse >:D
I will have to *undress her* -- (Kev, close your eyes :pbag:) to see if any markings. I measured her, and she is like over 48 inches tall . ALL THE MEN JUST WENT :thd: HEARING 48 INCHES.......lol
Because she is a bisque doll, I am hoping someone will recognize her, and have some information, and that hopefully she is worth more than $2 bucks....I looked on e-bay for anything similar but have not found. Maybe I'm typing wrong keywords in :boohoo:
THANKS ANNE FOR POSTING PIXS  :kissy:

Oh, she's just gorgeous! :D I would guess she's modern, but sooooo pretty! I LOVE dolls ::) And that dress is superb! I'd have certainly paid $2 for her! :gcheer:

She does look very modern to me. We used to get a lot of these modern dolls in Oxfam, but perhaps not as big, or with quite such fancy costumes. I think charity shops manage to get about ?10-?15 for theirs.

I agree, I think she is a modern "collectors" doll - lovely, but not up to the antique ones.
here is a link to a doll forum I am a member of - lovely kind people, http://dollchitchat.3.forumer.com/index.php? - mainly newborns and silicones, but there are some collectors who know a lot about other types of dolls too.

Hi :) thanks for the link and input--I will have to join and see if they have any ideas. I still have not undressed her....but I did finally find something similar on *Ebay.ca* of a 41 inch doll. The number there is: 250161373548. In my opinion, the dolls do look similar.
I should go back to the garage sale place to see if they had/have any papers of any sort for her...its a chance (if I remember the right house??) I may do that. If they do have any tags/papers on her, that would be a plus. Even so, I guess, IF I were to just sell her this way....being such a big/tall doll....maybe I would not be far off to ask between $ 30 - $50. Of course, starting high, with room.... If you look at the one on e-bay (but it has a paper)...do you think they look similar in a sense? At least it is a start... Thanks...let me know.

I was at the farmers' market/flea market today and there is one stall there that has that type of doll quite consistently. Sorry about that. :(

:coffee: :coffee: COFFEE-SHOP....Was telling some people about her at the coffee shop, and they wanted to see her, so they came and looked and offered $ 75.00 dollars for her....I said yes. The lady is a doll collector, and they also have a small little museum in their little town.
She at first said she wanted to see her to use in their museum at the doorway, or something.....but then after seeing her, the lady said she was going to just keep her in her home. They promised me that they love all their collectibles, and that they will NOT sell her. They dab in preserving all sorts of antiques too. They collect old bikes, furniture, anything...
She told me that she was going to a good home, and invited me there anytime to visit her...so you just never know, do ya....
No quibbing on the offer...straight from the pocket......so I could not refuse. I am happy, and they are happy, and seemed to really love her......

Thanks Josordoni ;)....I will....
When they were here, they also wanted to look at some of the furniture I had purchased too....and said I got some real good deals there too.
Just a single Mom looking for deals, and it is something I LOVE to do..., and love to collect....
