My mother has a similar one with a depression in the back and it's designed as a scourer holder.  I've also seen some that can be used as planters for small cactus etc. or adapted as money boxes.

No idea who made them... is yours a holder type Martin or is it a complete one? Is it hollow or sealed/solid?

Rose, there is a Reptile pottery co but they make tiles so I don't think that's the right place somehow.   :-\
