Title: Ivy-patterned spoon, reg no 172581
Post by: Anne on March 04, 2008, 02:44:18 PM
I think this is a preserve spoon - it's beautifully decorated with ivy leaves and on the back has the reg no 172581 which appears to date from 1891. Other than the RD no I can't find any marks on it to suggest who made it. I think it's plated but it's hard to tell. It does tarnish but cleans up beautifully as the pic shows. Any ideas where I can look next, other than the National Archives which are too far away.   :boohoo:

Imagine my surprise when i googled the registration number and up pops this page.  ;D

Here's a ladle or sugar sifter i just bought today, it's in the same pattern...

It looks like it's silver plated.
