19 years ago i studied ceramics for a few months, this is the only survivor.
I was worried about the Gulf war at the time and quite depressed.

Dan, that's wonderful! Hope you enjoy the ceramics course. We'll expect to see pictures as you go on... ;)
-
Gosh Dan, you have talent.
-
Very intricate Dan - was it slip moulded, or freehand pottery?
-
Thanks for those kind words everyone.
In answer to Anne and Lynne.
Of course i will post pic's and the teapot body was slab built and then carved and hand moulded as were the dice feet.
The spout and handle were both made in 2 halves so they are hollow.
It took two months to make but other projects ran alongside.

My very first attempt at pottery,i was about 10 yrs old i think?
-
Ah Dan, that's so sweet, how did you silver it?
-
It's pewter glaze Sue,like Prinknash pottery.
The flash on my camera sent it silver.
-
Still!, for a ten year old it's b***dy good!!
-
You know Sue, that's what i thought! LOL
-
When do you start your course? cant wait to see the first pot, and in a few years time i can say "i know him"
-
Tomorrow Sue,i will miss the next lesson though but Barcelona will be inspirational.
-
Have a nice time Dan. and dont forget to take lot's of pics to post.
-
i started my ceramics course, the tutor is the guy who makes "the best ever" Raku pots and is having an open day this month so i can watch the process (weather permitting) i will try to film it.
-
I just got home from my 2nd lesson, my teacher is very good and has eased me back in to pottery.
I am seeing the line and curve very clearly now, whereas when i was 23 and potting,i had little apreciation of these attributes and dwelled on detail.

-

The tankard that i am making in my pottery class will hopefully be on the same lines as this fine example of studio design,i love the change of line in the body and the natural curve of the handle.
If it is a tenth of the quality here i will be happy.

I went to the open day today, the weather was great and the Racu firing went ahead.Unfortunately there was no room to take pic's but it was a great day out and very educational.
Also lots of fun.

-
Thanks Su

The slug that grew legs
-
I do like tea pots,i once made a fat old troll with a tail that was a handle and a huge woody that was the spout.
He was well funny.
-
My latest project,a tankard with ram's horn handle.

Finally

Seriously though, I love the way the bottom makes the mouth. Very artistic, reminds me of Edvard Munch's The Scream
-
I was just thinking that Lynne, great minds eh?

Actually Lynne the mouth is the mouth of the vase.My favorite part is the sweeping curve of the brow.
-
Oh, is the face upside down ?
I assumed it was an ornamental piece rather than a functional vase. But I guess it could be displayed either way up?
-
If you had put a spout to the back of the head, the nose would have made a functional handle for a jug....
-
I used to have a very large, ceramic interpretation of the scream in my living room, the potter who made it gave it to me as a gift but then took it back again.
(She was as mad as a box of monkeys though.)
