Title: Clay Lion incense burner
Post by: Tigerchips on June 28, 2017, 01:27:13 AM
I bought this for £1, it's probably something recent but i don't know. It's hand made out of clay. There's a chip on it which has blackened, either because someone painted it or from age. There are no marks on it. There's a small hole in the top which i presume is for incense.

He's rather fun, isn't he? There was a pair of painted clay Tibetan lions on eBay a while ago, I just hunted out the links so you can compare the style:

Wow that's pretty close, except for the base. Seems they are new then, oh well, it was for charity.  :)

Again, I think these are things which have been made for quite a long time, so there will be variations.  I wonder if there are any reference sites on Tibetan products that we could investigate?
