I've only had the one piece of Arabia so far. :)
-
I got given a whole dinner set that has Arabia underneath it..most of them anyway, some look to have worn off.
Its sitting outside near the bbq getting dusty and dirty. I will take a pic. They are all heavy and dark brown and splotchy. I think they had 84 or something like that on it. Would they have Finland? Or the artists name on them?

They have a few different things on them...some have nothing. They are all dusty and dirty so I didnt look very hard :-\
This is the set and the back of one of the saucers..it does have Finland. I stuck them out the back because I had nowhere to put them and the lady who gave them to me said they were great for BBQ's because they were heavy and didnt break easily.
-
The brown stuff is called RUSKA designed by Ulla Procop? 1968 and was in production to at least 1990 - it was one of their most succesful lines and is not rare.
-
I grew up amongst the orange and brown..Im well over it!

Hi Guys
Here is a vase we have had for a while back stamp says made in Finland, but not sure of maker cannot read trade make.
Could this be Arabia?
Tony H in NZ
-
Hi Tony,
It is an Arabia lustreware vase, this backstamp was used during the 1930s....31-38 from memory but it's very early here :P so dont quote me yet.
Lovely example as well. I'll try to dig out a photo of a comparable pair I had.
-
My memory is not good at the best of times and certainly not before 7am... The AAA (Arabia Aktiefabrik) backstamp was in use between 1928 and 1932.
Cant find the picture of the pair but here's one of them on it's own.

Here (http://www.arabia.fi/web/Arabiawww.nsf/en/about_arabia) is a site all about Arabia, this link (http://www.arabia.fi/web/Arabiawww.nsf/file/about_arabia_factory_stamps_arabia_factorymarkings/$file/Arabia_factorymarkings.pdf) is a pdf file of all the Arabia backstamps.

Another site worth looking at is the Arabia Museum one:

Pedants corner.
Ruska was designed circa 1960. They are bomb proof, and sell reasonably well (very well for certain rarer pieces) particually in the States, well worth saving from the spiders.

I may just give others the opportunity to relive their childhood :)

Hi Trudy,
LOL...If you are thinking of selling it just watch the weight, they're very heavy! Best split it into bite sized chunks I find...and best not to use 'ugly' or 'brown' in the description ;)

Pedants corner
I'll correct the entry in the Jennifer Opie V&A book ;-)

hi - I found this while I was out forraging today and thought you might know if it has a particular pattern name?
I don't come across it too often here in Auckland - so was surprised as I havent seen this pattern before...
any idea?
oh ...its marked Arabia Finland with an incised 455 on it
-
How big is it? It could be a child's plate.
-
How big is it? It could be a child's plate.
its 20 cms across :)
-
That's a child's plate or a salad plate size
-
Here's a version of the bees pot. I sold it last December, people went crazy for it despite a small chip.
As far as I know, the jar shapes where designed by Ulla Procop
-

-
Here's this week's star buy. I've wanted one for ages :P
A big Valencia charger 14".
Where I'm going to display it I don't know.
-

Yonks ago I got a set of Valencia coffee cups in a charity shop for ?15
-
I'll post some more pictures of the bits of Arabia tableware I have!
-
;D
Shoving my oar in here, because I'm sort of interested in these sorts of designs - I've been familiar with what I call "men plates" since the early 70s. Mother had, now I have, a set of Norwegian plates with pictures of girls and boys and fruit, along the lines of Robbo's atavar (Hiya Robbo  - there's no escaping me, is there?).
They have purply-blue marks on the back.
turi-design: Corsica made in (FF) norway handpainted silkscreen.
there's leafy bits, also a backstamp in a different shade of turquoisey blue FF logo thing, with a ripple inbetween the Fs.
I have other "men" plates too - but I'll have to go dig them out. Two other kinds, I think.
-
Hi Sue, hellooooo!
Your plates are Figgjo Flint. Corsica is the name of the design. My avatar is Figgjo Flint too, from a cruet set. I think the design is "Saga".
Edit: Here's one:

Them's the ones! I've got about 12 wee plates and 2 big chargers. They're going on my kitchen walls. Not wire hangers - I've got some gluey things.
I had real trouble finding the right shades of red and green paint for the walls to go with them!
Not worth a fortune, then ::). Don't care, I like them!
-
:gcheer:
I found some more in a charity shop yesterday. Nice too.
Same as this auction.

Got a tiny deep (2.5") skillet, 3.25" diameter, the 4.5" diameter one and a 5.5" flat skillet, 1" deep, all for a pound.
:pst: They're in hiding.
-
I found this today and I wondered if anyone knew anything about it ...??
I've found the same on ebay but it doesnt tell me much...is this part of the ruska range or completely different? ... its incised to the base...
-
Hi, it is'nt part of the Ruska range, but is using the same glaze....It might be part of the 'Kaarna' range that was also designed by Ulla Procope and produced with a variety of glazes including this one.
-
Thanks very much for that info Martyn will try having a look around for Kaarna ...
