Staffordshire apprentice pieces
« on: September 16, 2010, 02:10:44 PM »
Hi,
Did the Staffordshire Potteries do apprentice pieces, does anyone know? As woodworkers and joiners made their own apprentice pieces, I'm assuming potters (painters and gilders) did too, but I'd rather like confirmation.
My reason for asking is that I've just acquired two very small vases, sold as a pair, and to all intents and purposes a pair of James Kent blue Osaka. However, they are unmarked and the quality of the gilding and the transfer placement leaves a lot to be desired. However, they're interesting in their own right, but I would like to find out more about them.
Any ideas, oh wise ones of the forum?

Kind regards,
Fi
