Brass art nouveau container
« on: February 24, 2008, 04:15:00 PM »
Unfortunately all the nickel silver has worn off this pretty little container.  It's stamped E.P.N.S. on the base but no other markings.  I presuming that a) its English and b) it dates back to the art nouveau period  ???  What does anyone think please?

Any ideas what it might have originally been used for?  Its only 3.5" high and 4.5" wide in total.  I just wonder if it might have had a glass liner at one time...  Is it worth selling in this condition and would buyers replate it?  Or is it tat?  Be honest now - I can take it :thd: ;D

TIA :)

Hi Anne, any other marks apart from the EPNS ? if you could pin it down to a maker it MIGHT be worth replating, orther wise i dont think worth very much, sorry.

I haven't cleaned it yet Sue.  Its black underneath.  Now where's my Brillo soap pad and scouring powder?  (only joking :o)  When I've cleaned it up, I'll have a look to see if there are any other markings lurking there...
