IK..............???
« on: September 21, 2008, 08:37:45 AM »
Bought this today, and very similar to BMP, but not.  Big footed bowl with Blue glaze 8 inches tall & wide.  It does have the initials *IK* on the bottom.

I was thinking here that the IK could be initials..............OR..............I was also thinking that IK  could (maybe) mean INEKE Canadian pottery, since they do flowing glazes too.

See topic:  http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=10306.0

Just a wild guess here, but the glaze looks like it done more professionally than an amateur?  Any other ideas.  TIA

It looks like a professional slip moulded pot, see the seam and the little feet to stop the glaze sticking to the kiln

What is that?  Yeah I did see the seam but still do not know?  Professional mold seam...by a real potter, or just a mold that is purchased and then just painted by whomever?  Like in ceramics courses?  ???  TIA

Slip moulding is when liquid clay (a clay slurry) is run round the inside of a mould and allowed to dry out. It's how almost all the fancy shapes are made. And of course, moulds have seams so you can open them. Sometimes items are made in tow halves then stuck together before firing. I think the use of a mould indicates volume production rather than a one off.
