Topic: unusual Potteries vase....

Today i bought this attractive little 6.5" tall vase from a charity shop in my locality, Marked to base something plant hanley i think this refers to the potteries i have found some referances to a plant company in the potteries area's around the 1900's but not found much information or any pictures of there pottery nothing on ebay etc either. Does anybody have any information or pictures as regards this type of pottery please also would it have any value i payed ?6 hope ive not payed too much

Could be the Staffordshire firm of R.H. and S.L. Plant Ltd. at the Tuscan China Works at Longton. They also made fine bone china, more of them here: http://www.yobunny.com/pottery/index.php?topic=10273.0

A picture of the backstamp would help confirm it for you.

Thank's anne that was a great link its marked to the base james plant hanley circa 1914-1938 produced at the brook street factory hanley stoke-on-trent. Made at the time in this gouda style and most prob designed by someone called thorley.

Godden's Pottery & Porcelain Marks doesn't show anything for any one called James (or J) Plant at Hanley, which is strange.

The potteries.org website does list a James Plant at Hanley but has little else about them: http://www.thepotteries.org/allpotters/804b.htm

It appears to have been made after Grimwades took over J Plant in about 1900, according to this link http://www.goudadesign.co.uk/goudacopies.html
