Troika(ish) type slab vase
« on: June 29, 2008, 05:42:29 PM »
Any ideas about this one please?  It looks to date back to the Troika period with its geometric relief pattern.  No markings.  The clay is white. The seller reckons it came from around the Poole area. 8?"x7"x2".  I haven't checked Carn yet, but will do.

TIA  :)

It looks like Carn to me.

...or Tremean

Circles are typical of Carn pottery though...

The two pieces of Carn I had were both unmarked BUT had flat bases, no foot rims. They were rectangular slab pots.

I don't think it is Carn.

Still looking... :comp:

Just a quickie - is Troika always marked?

I saw some Troika on Monday that had that white shiny glazed bottom. Carn has a matte bottom

Thanks Christine ;)  I've been looking at some Carn, and I think I can discount that now.  Tremaen is a different type of clay I think.
I've seen a couple of pieces of Troika in a collectible's window, so next time I'm passing I'll have a good look, and may be bend the vendor's ear.  I've never actually handled a piece of Troika so don't know anything about it, other than what I've seen in books, ebay etc.etc.

You could try contacting http://fired-specialists-of-carn-pottery.com as they sell this sort of thing.

Thanks TC ;)  Great link.  Will get back if I find anything out.

I did spot a similar looking vase in the Celtic section and will add the info to the other thread.
