Topic: french trinket dish

well here go's for my 1st post, i've had this one for a while, it measures 5" x 3", all hand painted, all glazed except for the base which has a bisque feel to it, i've never been able to find out who the maker was

Have you tried searching for the companies located in Desvres, France?

I can't quiet make out the first letter on the initials but the 'F' might stand for Faience.

Try searching under 'Desvres' and 'Desres' on ebay, that is, if you haven't already tried.

I don't know if this listing is accurate but it says 'GF' stands for Gabriel Fourmaintraux

yep it's me Christine  i never knew this place existed,

thanks for links Tiger, but they seem to have been stamped and not hand done, i'm not even sure what the maker/decorators mark is, it could be GF CJF or something completely different and i wonder what the numbers mean, be looking in one of my best books for porcelain marks, it has 8 page's of Desvres mark's and signatures of the artists but none come anywhere near, i will keep looking

yep it's me Christine  i never knew this place existed,

We'd have invited you sooner if we'd known you didn't know!    The forum was set up to handle the increasing number of questions on ceramics and metal over on the GMB Cafe, where we couldn't add pics and where topics are deleted after so long anyhow (in Cafe that is.)  TC had the idea for a ceramics forum and I made it a reality for him.  We've been building slowly over the last year - in fact the board is 1 year old on 30 July!

Hi Ray, that is definitely a good Fourmaintraux Desvres mark - the little sunshine mark is a giveaway.  I have had GF Desvres that had hand painted marks - made a LOT of money.  The French in particular love their own Desvres, your trinket is a pretty thing.

It might actually be the base tray for a miniature tea or Liqueur set - which one of my pieces was.
