Old English Potter?
« on: August 18, 2008, 01:41:20 PM »
For charity.

Has anyone heard of a John Paltrelge, or John Partridge (etc, etc, etc), working in Plymouth. The incised mark reads: "John Paltrelge Bedford Plymouth"

It appears on a very thin red earthernware slipware dish. I've seen them described as Loaf Pans. It has slightly raised large light brown dots in the bowl as decoration.

A bit like this Loaf pan but with a different decoration

John Pollex used to make traditional English slipware in Plymouth during the 70s-80s...He normally uses/used an impressed seal mark so probably not......?

He's looks a tad young, I was thinking 1800's as it looks very old.  :)
