Possible Leaper??
« on: February 28, 2009, 02:36:02 PM »
Hi Everyone!

I've had this set a while now and looking at threads here it looks SIMILAR to pieces ID'd as by Eric Leaper, Wonder if mine could be too? There are no marks to the bottoms but I understand this isn't unusual (or am I misinformed?)

Sorry for the poor quality of the pics my camera isn't working so these are taken from my fone! any questions please let me know.

              TIA

              John

p.s this is such a WONDERFUL site!!!!!

I have come to the conclusion that most of them are not signed. They look exactly like Eric Leaper and i'd be surprised if they weren't.

Hi, and WELCOME....

I am afraid I do not know much about Eric Leaper at all.  I am still learning on this one (and many others)  Is there a site for this pottery?

What are their values?

Your pots are very much like Leapers. He has a good profile on www.studiopottery.com and they also have a few pieces of his for sale, so you can see the prices he is expected to fetch there. Take a look at this vase http://www.studiopottery.com/cgi-bin/pp.cgi?item=5364 (sorry, couldn't figure how to paste it as a shortcut, I've only just progressed from slate and chalk  :-\ ) which is currently being offered for ?50.00.
Hope this helps.

    Thanks again!!

The very best of luck with that  :x-fingers: :x-fingers: :x-fingers:, a very worthy cause (and great place to visit I'm told!). Be very careful not to undersell though, double check anything you're not sure of before parting with it. You never know, you may have just one piece that will pay for the visit by itself.

Thanks for the advice CM, I am TRYING to get everything I have I.D'd and get an approximate valuation before I put it up for sale, but some pieces I know are gonna be diffucult!!!  esp my paintings and prints.  I have managed to secure a stall at a local antiques and collectors fair, that is very well attended, at a cost of just ?8 for the day!

     Regards

John, we have a painting and print forum here too, so add pics and info there and we'll see if we can help with them too. 8)

Do you think it would be OTT of me to put an ?80 price sticker on the set? Have tried to look for comparables but am unable to see anything, I honestly don't know what they're worth or what to ask, don't want to scare any potential buyers off with too high price!!!!

I think that price stickers put  people off, and if they ask the price then they're showing a genuine interest and it starts the bartering off. Set yourself a minimum price that you'd accept for your pieces and ask higher, you can always barter down but never up,and if you're lucky you'll get nearer the higher price.

Thanks for the advice CM  :) I've never sold any of my collection before and have never looked at them in terms of value just things I like, but as you said previously I wouldn't want to undersell! Thanks again

 Hi Morse,

No I haven't put them out for sale yet, I sell at a collectors sale once a month but so far haven't had enough room on the table to put them out!!!!

                 Regards

Have you ever thought of selling on ebay?
Ebay attracts the collectors of the more specialist pottery. They would be seen by the Lepaer collectors around the country.
II would say these are Eric leaper produced from his pottery near lands end after leaving Newlyn.
In this type if signed it is sometimes just visible under the thick bottom glaze. he just signed LEAPER.
