Ornate jug German?

Hello, My father in law gave us this jug a while ago, he thought it might be German. It has a blue capital R on a raised diamond shape. I have looked on the internet and found similar marks from the 1760s but is it really that old? It has mermaids supporting the base, cherubs and sea creature round the middle and a goat/man on the handle, Its lovely colourd with pale greens and pinks and some gold paint. Any info would be great, Thanks Cheryl.

Hi, I've been Googling these names, Rudolstadt, Greiner Rauenstein and Gotha, as they are associated with the 'R' mark. I didn't find anything though, maybe if someone has a porcelain marks book they can look up these names in there?  :x-fingers:

I looked in Lang and there's nothing like this mark shown there.

Nice name there.  I hope MR.vulture did not give you that name...  ;D lol  :blush:

You jug looks very nice, I like.  I thought I can see in the picture that right across from the letter, there looks to be an incised mark (a number) that looks like the number ? 70 ?  It looks like it is machine imprinted?? Is that so, or am I seeing things again.

If it is, would something be marked that way if it was that old?  I am thinking not, but I can not tell from the picture.  Is that a number on the bottom?

HI,  My husband has been called Vulture since he was at school, because he picks up ANYTHING thats going free!!!! ;D   I then got called Mrs Vulture when we met.
The jug has got a number 70 on the bottom, it is pressed into the glaze and is very shallow. Perhaps a cataloue number?  I have spent weeks trying to identify this jug but cannot get anywhere. My father in law owned it for about 40 years before he gave it to us. Hes a retired antique dealer and he also never knew what it was , but we all like it a lot!!.      Cheers Cheryl (aka mrs vulture) and no I don't have my husbands habit

If the 7 is uncrossed (as in the UK) then I'd be thinking it isn't German, as they usually use the crossed 7 (the one with the horizontal line through it) but I could be wrong.
