Looks like Reddish clay -- can you still post a larger pic of the base.

It is sometimes funny what another person might see on a base.    Not always, but sometimes what we do not see -- others might see.  Funny how that works.

Very, very pretty I must say.....What is the height (etc) of this piece??

Hi Keith,
It is 1.7 inches high and the diameter is 2.7 diameter, so it's verry small.
When I looked at it again, you were right, it does have some initials which look like ACH? It might be Scottish as it was bought here!
I think it is lovely too, it's a very tactile piece.
Thanks for all your help

Hi Wiggy - Try using some (any) dusting powder, or even baby powder and rub it over the bottom....Then post a pic here for us, and crop out your picture before you post it so that most of the pic is JUST the base -- and in the same size as the last pic posted.

Then we can see IF we can make out some letter...

Just a suggestion, and can see what others see, and go from there.  Very Nice -- I really like it.   Curious as you are...almost looks like glass with the shine.

:)

Hi,
I managed to get some flour onto the signature. And I also used my USB microscope! I have really contrasted the colour, to it brings up the initials. I think it reads A.E.H??
I washed it in fairy liquid, that's why the glaze has come up nice and shiney!
Thanks for your continued help,
Vickie
