Hi there:
I went to an Estate Sale today and had bought a few things. I had to run to an ATM to get some cash, and the lady said she would hold my stuff. As I went to go to my car I noticed a Ceramic bust there. I picked it up, and looked at it (it was marked) and have a price tag of $3 on it. I took this back to the lady and said to add this to my stuff. She did. Ran and got my $$.....and the total for everything I got came to about $25. With the ATM you can only take out $20 at a time, so I asked if they would take $20 for all the things I got (about 8 things) including this bust. So even though the Bust was $3, I ended up still getting for only about $1 after she agreed to take just the $20 I had...
Now of course I am really excited....
This bust has a name, and a date of 1871 on the back. It is ceramic. It is either the Virgin Mary (and child) or Madonna. Not sure. Now I am HOPING that I lucked out and this is not a copy. I am not sure but I think it is real as a lot of the stuff there seemed quite old, and like it was a collector's (estate stuff) of stuff, different odds, and ends...
Anyways, this is about 16 inches high. There appears to be a name on the back but I can not make it out. Now there is a date of 1871 under that name. It looks like it was made that way. I have posted 2 front pics of the Bust, at slightly different angles...
Can anyone identify it, or the name, or the mark? Is this real?I thought I better post it first, as I was thinking IF it is nothing -- I could always use in my yard as garden ART --- but better first check it out. Nothing is broken on her. The only thing that is wrong is on her one finger is a slight black marker mark. Mostly likely happened that day as they were pricing items. Mind be removable (?) But no major chips and marks..all minor. Excellent condition IF this is as old as stated on the back...
Thanks for any help -- here's hoping it IS what I am hoping it is !!!!
(Please, Please, please...
